Annelie Gutgesell

After playing hockey competitively for 10 years, Annelie was introduced to yoga in 2014 after struggling to find physical activity to commit to after she retired. Annelie began her yoga journey in her own home, where she practiced daily until stepping into a studio a year later. During this time, Annelie learned how to listen to her body - and strengthened her own body awareness.

Wanting to deepen her own practice, Annelie completed her 200hr Yoga Teacher Training through Soma Yoga Institute in 2017. Annelie believes that with dedication, mindfulness, and commitment, one’s yoga practice will only grow deeper on and off the mat. To Annelie, the practice of yoga is creating space, mindfulness, contentment, and body awareness, through asana and meditation. Yoga is not confined within the four corners of the mat, but transcends into every day life. As a teacher, Annelie aspires to help others strengthen their own body awareness, and create a deeper connection between ones’ mind, body, and soul.

Annelie’s favourite pose is Vrschikasana Pincha Mayurasana (Scorpion Forearm Stand), for this counterbalance demands strength, concentration, and flexibility, and is the essence of strength mixed with vulnerability.

Annelie Gutgesell instructs the following:
  • Hot Yin Yang | I
  • A popular style of practice where the first half of the class is vigorous (a level 1-2 flow) and the second half is passive and restorative.

  • Hot Flow 1 | YOGA 8 | I
  • Using the principles learned in the Intro or Fundamentals, this class moves you through sequences at a faster pace and explores more challenging asanas such as backbends and arm balances. Flow classes contain elements found in Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Anusara and Iyengar practices.

  • Open Flow | Hot | I
  • Open Flow is a class designed to cater to students of all levels who have a generally good level of fitness and ideally, some yoga experience. Different modifications will be offered to suit intro level students up to intermediate and advanced.
