Gentle Hatha | G

This class is taught by:

Anthony Berlingeri

Anthony relates yoga to being in a relationship; it takes commitment, vulnerability, playfulness, faith, forgiveness, & compassion. Anthony’s love affair with yoga began about 8 years ago & like most relationships do, it started on the surface. My hamstrings were super tight and I wanted to loosen up while toning my body. Little did I know yoga would remain with me throughout some of the hardest times of my life. Yoga became a mirror for me to see myself in. Most of us start to practice for the simple reason of strengthening the mind and body, but ultimately we begin to re-discover our own truth. We get out of our heads and into our Selves, which is the very nature of love. As a teacher I believe the essence of yoga is also the art of living. Its about being present for our Self, and the world that we live in, so that we can express and celebrate the divinity that we all share. Yoga isn’t a religion, nor does it have anything to do with becoming a better person. Its simply about letting go of the past, as well as our fears of the future, so that the gift of the present can be received! Anthony is recognized in the community for his commitment to bring yoga and meditation into schools through his Yoga Affects Youth initiative. His intention is bring the gift of yoga and meditation to children so that they can begin the path of their own discovery from an early age. For more information check out yogaaffectsyouth.com.

Anthony's favourite yoga pose is Salamba Sirsasana (Headstand). It's not often he flips his world upside down, but when he does it gives him a completely different view and perspective. It also forces him to be present to avoid tumbling over.

Steve Ferrell

Steve found his pathway to Yoga as a bodybuilder and personal trainer who was always feeling tight, sore and looking for “more” out of his physical workouts. Steve tried his first class with Hamilton’s Alex Bovkis and immediatley fell in love. Within 3 months Steve was enrolled in his first 200hr Teacher Training with Heather Greaves. Steve was certified through Integrative Yoga Therapy (IYT), a style founded by renowned Yoga therapist, Joseph LePage. Steve found his way to De La Sol where he immediately fell in love with the fluidity, strength and meditative qualities of the Ashtanga Vinyasa practice. Steve is always learning, and combined with his interests in Human Anatomy, Ayruveda and Buddhist Meditation, he continues to deepen his practice. He offers a challenging, invigorating but very quirky and light hearted class, blending the physical with an emphasis on the mental and spiritual facets of the practice.

Heather Elson

Heather Elson came to yoga practice in 2002, seeking a balance in a life brimming with full time work and a university course load. After the experience of her first savasana, Heather called her mom from the nearest payphone, enthusing, “you gotta try this yoga thing!” By 2005 Heather was trained as a Kid’s Yoga teacher, and by the middle of 2006 she was certified by Ron Reid and Diane Bruni at Downward Dog. Diving deeper still, 2007 saw her complete an advanced training in Restorative Yoga with Hali Schwartz, and open her own studio in Toronto’s west end. By way of a long, rich and meandering journey, Heather returned to her hometown of Hamilton in January of 2015, pregnant with her second son, and practicing headstand in the backyard right up until he made his appearance! Heather is thrilled to join the De La Sol community, and looks forward to breathing with you. Come and let her sing you into savasana! Favourite pose: Legs up the Wall. Gloriously good for you and so delicious!
A non-athletic style of practice suitable for those with injuries or mobility issues. A supportive and intelligent approach to gently opening the body, learning to breathe more efficiently and relieving the mind of stress and tension.
