Vinyasa Flow 1

This class is taught by:

Kiah Cato

Kiah first came to yoga at the age of 15 as a compliment to her soccer regime. After returning to Ontario from her first year of university, soccer fell to the side and she began to focus on her practice. In that time, yoga became much more than physical conditioning, providing a new way to cope with the ever-changing realities of life.
Spurred by the benefits of self-exploration and mindfulness, Kiah sought to share the practice of yoga with others, completing her 200hr Hatha-Vinyasa Teacher Training at De La Sol Yoga Studios in Hamilton, ON.

Kiah’s style of vinyasa flow seeks to build strength and endurance through dynamic movement. Her aim is for students to walk away from class feeling centred, refreshed, and content. Yoga is not about how far one can push themselves, but rather recognizing personal boundaries and building the strength to eventually shatter them.

"Kiah's favourite pose is urdhva dhanurasana (wheel) as it is the pose in which she feels most vulnerabile; it is energizing in its execution and therapeutic for both depression and asthma."

Samantha Carpino

When Samantha was introduced to yoga four years ago she had no idea of the lifelong journey she was about to embark on. She grew up as an athlete and didn't realize the importance of listening to her body. Yoga has since then taught her to honour her body, let go of her ego and live in the present moment-where she has become more in tune with what her body is telling her. In her present day athletic endeavors, she is a more mindful, well rounded athlete and respects the balance that has been created in her body, mind and soul.
Samantha completed her Hatha-Vinyasa teacher training through De La Sol in Hamilton and will remain a student for life. Yoga has also drawn spirituality and creativity back into her life. You can find this in her classes along with, the expectation to move mindfully with your breath, build strength, and create more space for love and patience. Life is a journey of self discovery and she invites you to embark on this journey with her.

Currently Samantha's favourite poses are arm balances! The strength, courage and freedom that Samantha feels in these poses motivate her to push harder and step out of her comfort zone- on and off the mat.

Steve Ferrell

Steve found his pathway to Yoga as a bodybuilder and personal trainer who was always feeling tight, sore and looking for “more” out of his physical workouts. Steve tried his first class with Hamilton’s Alex Bovkis and immediatley fell in love. Within 3 months Steve was enrolled in his first 200hr Teacher Training with Heather Greaves. Steve was certified through Integrative Yoga Therapy (IYT), a style founded by renowned Yoga therapist, Joseph LePage. Steve found his way to De La Sol where he immediately fell in love with the fluidity, strength and meditative qualities of the Ashtanga Vinyasa practice. Steve is always learning, and combined with his interests in Human Anatomy, Ayruveda and Buddhist Meditation, he continues to deepen his practice. He offers a challenging, invigorating but very quirky and light hearted class, blending the physical with an emphasis on the mental and spiritual facets of the practice.

Chris Nguyen

Curiosity is what brought Chris into his first yoga class. That curiosity marked the beginning of an ongoing journey and passion for the practice of yoga and a profound desire to deepen that relationship.

Chris completed De La Sol's 200 hour YTT and is currently studying the Ashtanga Yoga method through his Level 2 authorized teacher, Anna Muzzin. With persistence and dedication, one's yoga practice can only strengthen and grow deeper. In 2015, Chris embarked on two separate trip to Mysore, India to study with R.Sharath Jois and Saraswathi Rangaswamy at KPJAYI (Krishna Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute), the source of Ashtanga yoga. In 2016, Chris completed his third trip. Chris is a certified Functional Range Conditioning Movement Specialist (FRCms) studying under Dr. Andreo Spina. He is also studying the art of hand balancing under renown circus coach. Nicolas Montes de Oca.

To Chris, yoga is not something to "excel" at but rather about cultivating contentment, compassion, mindfulness, self acceptance and bringing awareness into the body. Yoga has transformed his life on and off the mat. As a teacher, he aspires to help others find a santosha (contentment) and a deeper connection to themselves.

One of Chris' favourite poses is urdhva dhanurasana (upward bow pose). The feeling of opening up to endless possibilities can be quite addicting.

Kelly Fife

As a competitive gymnast, Kelly was trained from a very young age to ignore how her body was feeling and to push through pain. This mindset stayed with her for years, but ironically only lead to tight muscles and stiff, achy joints. Although Kelly was initially drawn to yoga to increase pain free range of motion, she has since learned how to move and breathe with awareness, as well as experienced the physical and psychological benefits of leading a mindful life.

A recent graduate from De La Sol's 2011-2012 Yoga Teacher Training Program, Kelly's classes are inspired by the benefits of maintaining proper alignment while moving in and out of postures, as well as by the enjoyment she has found in moving with breath while flowing from one posture to the next.

As a student in her class, Kelly hopes you will find space to move with your own breath, explore your own practice, and eventually experience how a mindful practice on the mat can lead to greater overall well-being once you are off.

Kelly's favourite yoga pose is Adho Mukha Vrksasana (Handstand). Even if just for a split second, there is a feeling of weightlessness she can find there that she never experienced standing on two feet!

Michelle Hudecki

After years of competitive gymnastics, Michelle found yoga in 2006 in an effort to heal and connect to her body and spirit. After an ankle injury she could no longer compete and found yoga was able to fill what she felt had been missing. Over the years, the practice gradually infused into every aspect of her life. Michelle completed her first 200 hour training program at De La Sol Yoga Studio and is still continuing her education further. Some of Michelle's teachers and biggest influences include, Doug Swenson, Kino McGregor, Meghan Currie and of course, Katie McClelland. Michelle is passionate about teaching and making yoga accessible to the community. Michelle’s motto is a body in motion stays in motion.

Whether she is teaching or taking a class at the studio she always feels surrounded by so many awesome people which makes it hard not to love De La Sol and the Sol Yoga family! Meeting such beautiful individuals who continue to inspire her is just one of the many reasons why she wanted to join the De La Sol and the Sol Yoga family.

Michelle leads a vegetarian lifestyle and loves spending time with family and friends. Michelle's favourite pose is Urdhva Dhanurasana because it is an uplifting posture. It stimulates the nervous system and opens the heart, and can leave you glowing with energy and vitality for the rest of the day. Also, in this pose Michelle, with her heart shining to the sky, likes to send an intention or a message of love to someone who she feels needs it.

"I have been a seeker and I still am, but I stopped asking the books and the stars. I started listening to the teachings of my soul". – Rumi

Claudia Bauman

Claudia believes that people come to yoga to feel better and that we are all seeking an experience of our own goodness. It is Claudia’s intention as a teacher to encourage others to be open of heart, open of mind, open to feeling better both on their yoga mats and most importantly, during the yoga of everyday life.

Claudia has drawn upon the experience of her teaching career in education and brought it into a new domain..the yoga mat. She completed her 200 hour Teacher Training in the Anusara Tradition with Michael Siddal in 2008 and continues to learn from him. Guiding and inspiring Claudia on her journey have been her valued friends and teachers Katie McClelland and Andre Grandbois.
Using the principles learned in the Intro or Fundamentals class, this class moves you through sequences at a faster pace and explores more challenging asanas such as backbends and arm balances. Our flow classes contain elements found in Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Anusara and Iyengar practices.
